Pocket Chair is a project carried out during a textile experimentation course. I made this project with two friends, Jules Tricquet and Emma Taverna. The brief was to create an object based on the theme of “Deployment.” We came up with the idea of making a chair using resin-coated fabric. Instead of using fabric for its material qualities and flexibility, we used it as an assembly of knots; by rigidifying the base material, we created a strong, rigid panel. We therefore sewed four layers of fabric and then applied seven layers of resin. The resin-coated fabric panels were then slipped over the chair structure like a sock. It is a chair for children—a small portable playground—because once folded, it fits into a tote bag.
